Work and Financial Concerns of Cancer Survivors’ Family, Friends, and Caregivers
Caregiving can create immediate and long-term financial problems for caregivers. Many caregivers choose to help financially, spending an average of $200 per month and $5,531 per year out-of-pocket on expenses related to caregiving. Caregivers also may have to reduce their work hours, take extended leave, or quit their job to take care of the survivor. As a result, their retirement savings, Social Security benefits, and health insurance may be reduced.
