സുഖുമി

കരിങ്കടലിന്റെ കിഴക്കുവടക്കു ഭാഗത്തായി സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന സ്വയംഭരണ പ്രദേശമായ അബ്ഖാസിയയുടെ തലസ്ഥാന നഗരമാണ് സുഖുമി. Sukhumi / Sokhumi[3] (Abkhaz: Аҟәа, Aqwa; Georgian: სოხუმი, [sɔxumi] (ശ്രവിക്കുക); റഷ്യൻ: Сухум(и), Sukhum(i)) ഭൂരിപക്ഷ അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര സമൂഹവും ഇതിനെ ജോർജ്ജിയയുടെ ഭാഗമായാണ് കരുതുന്നത്. എന്നാൽ, നിയമപരമായി ഓട്ടോണമസ് റിപ്പബ്ലിക് ഓഫ് അബ്ഖാസിയക്കാണ് ഇതിന്റൈ ഭരണ നിയന്ത്രണം. 1992-93 കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ നടന്ന ആഭ്യന്തര യുദ്ധത്തിന് ശേഷം സുഖുമിയുടെയും അബ്ഖാസിയയുടെ മറ്റു പ്രദേശങ്ങളുടെയും നിയന്ത്രണം ജോർജ്ജിയൻ സർക്കാരിന് നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടു. 1990കളുടെ തുടക്കത്തിൽ നടന്ന ജോർജ്ജിയൻ-അബ്ഖാസിയൻ സംഘർഷത്തിൽ സുഖുമി നഗരത്തിന് കാര്യമായ കേടുപാടുകൾ സംഭവിച്ചിരുന്നു.നിലവിൽ ഇവിടത്തെ ജനസംഖ്യ 60,000 ആണ്. സോവിയറ്റ് ഭരണകാലഘട്ടത്തിന്റെ അവസാന സമയത്തുണ്ടായിരുന്നതിന്റെ പകുതിയാണിത്.

ജോർജിയൻ ഭാഷയിൽ സൊഖുമി - სოხუმი (Sokhumi)[4] എന്നാണ് ഈ പട്ടണം അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്. മിൻഗ്രേലിയൻ ഭാഷയിൽ അഖുജിഖ - აყუჯიხა (Aqujikha) എന്നും[5] റഷ്യൻ ഭാഷയിൽ സുഖും, സുഖുമി Сухум (Sukhum) / Сухуми (Sukhumi) എന്നൊക്കെയാണ് അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്. Beech എന്ന അർത്ഥമുള്ള റ്റ്‌സ്‌ഖോമി, റ്റ്‌സ്ഖുമി എന്ന ജോർജിയൻ പദത്തിൽ നിന്നാണ് സൊഖോമി ഉത്ഭവിച്ചത്.
