ഒഡോനെറ്റോപ്റ്റെറ

ചിറകുള്ള പ്രാണികളുടെ വളരെ പുരാതനമായ ഒരു മഹാനിരയാണ് ഒഡോനെറ്റോപ്റ്റെറ (Odonatoptera). ഈ മഹാനിരയിൽ ഉള്ള ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ജീവികൾ തുമ്പികൾ മാത്രമാണ്. വംശനാശം സംഭവിച്ച മറ്റൊരു നിരയായിരുന്ന Meganisoptera അഥവാ Protodonata-ൽപ്പെട്ട വലിയ തുമ്പികളുടെ ജീവാശ്മങ്ങൾ ലഭ്യമാണ്. Meganisoptera എന്ന നിരയിലെ മെഗാന്യൂറ, മെഗാടൈപ്പസ് , മെഗാന്യൂറോപ്സിസ് എന്നീ ജനുസുകൾ അവയിൽച്ചിലതാണ്. 710 മി. മി. (28 ഇഞ്ച്) വരെ ചിറകുകൾക്ക് വലിപ്പമുള്ളവ അക്കൂട്ടത്തിലുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.[1][2][3]
