എക്സ്യുവി

അകശേരുകികളായ പ്രാണികൾ, ചിലന്തികൾ, ക്രസ്റ്റേഷ്യൻ തുടങ്ങിയ ജീവികൾ രൂപാന്തരീകരണം നടത്തുമ്പോൾ പൊഴിച്ചു കളയുന്ന അവയുടെ ബാഹ്യസ്ഥികൂടം ആണ് എക്സ്യുവി. ഇവയുപയോഗിച്ചും ജീവികളുടെ ഇനവും ലിംഗവും വരെ തിരിച്ചറിയാൻ കഴിയും. ജീവികളെ ശേഖരിക്കാൻ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുള്ള സാഹചര്യങ്ങളിൽ ഇവ ശേഖരിച്ചു പഠിക്കുന്നത് വളരെ പ്രയോജനപ്രദമാണ്.

ലാറ്റിൻ പദമായ exuviae[1] എന്നാൽ "ശരീരത്തിൽനിന്നും കൊഴിഞ്ഞത്" എന്നാണർത്ഥം.[2][3][4]
