Nesiotobacter

Nesiotobacter is a Gram-negative genus of bacteria from the family of Rhodobacteraceae with one known species, Nesiotobacter exalbescens.[1][2][3][4] Nesiotobacter exalbescens has been isolated from a hypersaline lake from the Laysan Atoll from the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands.[4][5]

Taxonomy

The genus and type species were described by Stuart P. Donachie, John P. Bowman, and Maqsudul Alam in 2006.[4] The genus name is from Greek nesiotes, meaning 'of an island, insular', and bakterion, meaning 'rod', referring to the island, Laysan, on which it was isolated.[4] The specific epithet is from Latin exalbesco, meaning 'becoming white, growing white', in reference to the fading color of maturing colonies.[4]
