- 1.1 Yes
- 1.2 No
  - 1.2.1 Begin BVM
  - 1.2.2 Is BVM effective?
    - 1.2.2.1 Yes
    - 1.2.2.2 No
      - 1.2.2.2.1 Is there effective oxygenation and ventilation?
        
        1.2.2.2.1.1 Yes
        
        1.2.2.2.1.2 No

Airway obstruction?

Assess for history or concern for foreign body causing airway obstruction

Yes

No

Begin BVM

If BVM is not effective perform the following:

Reposition Airway
Check correct mask size
Place OPA
Check for gastric distention

Is BVM effective?

Yes

Monitor and transport

No

Place endotracheal tube or supraglottic airway

Is there effective oxygenation and ventilation?

Assess:

ETCO2 Reading
Misting in tube
Equal breath sounds
Direct visualization of the cords if ETT used.

Yes

Monitor and transport

No

Check airway device

Tube dislodged?
Tube obstructed?
Pneumothorax?
Equipment failure?
