Administration

Adult Dosing

  • Atrial fibrillation, cardioversion ("pill-in-a-pocket")
    • 200-300mg PO once
  • Paroxysmal atrial tachycardia (prophylaxis)
    • 50-150mg PO BID

Pediatric Dosing

  • 25-100 mg/m(2) PO 2-3 times per day, MAX dose 200 mg/m(2)/day

Special Populations

Contraindications

  • Allergy to class/drug
  • Cardiogenic shock
  • Right bundle branch block (without pacemaker)
  • 2nd or 3rd degree AV block (without pacemaker)

Adverse Reactions

Serious

  • Heart block, sinus node dysfunction
  • Torsades de pointes, ventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation
  • Cardiac shock, cardiac arrest
  • New onset or worsening heart failure

Common

  • Dizziness, fatigue, blurred vision
  • Nausea
  • Dyspnea
