Background

  • Multiple types of finger splint exists
    • This page shows general splint - certain fractures or injuries may require an alternative splint technique

Indications

  • Phalangeal fracture
    • Gutter splints probably better for proximal fractures

Procedure

Volar splint (may also splint dorsal aspect)
  • Assess pulse (capillary refill), motor, and sensation
  • Apply splint and secure to finger at multiple points (e.g. with tape) - avoid placing securing straps over joints
  • Reassess pulse, motor, and sensation
