Administration

Adult Dosing

  • 25-300mg PO daily

Pediatric Dosing

  • 0.5-0.75 mg/kg/day OR 20-25 mg/m(2)/day PO in 3 doses
  • 0.25-0.35 mg/kg/day OR 12.5 mg/m(2)/day IM

Special Populations

Contraindications

  • Allergy to class/drug
  • Systemic fungal infections (except when used for replacement therapy in adrenal insufficiency)
  • Concomitant administration of live or live attenuated vaccines

Adverse Reactions

Serious

  • Adrenocortical insufficiency
  • Hyperglycemia
  • Cataract, glaucoma
  • Osteoporosis

Common

  • Hypertension
  • Increased infection risk, poor wound healing
  • Skin atrophy
  • Cushing syndrome
  • Growth impairment
  • Depression, euphoria

Pharmacology
