Administration

Adult Dosing

  • Asthma: 40 to 320 mcg by oral inhalation BID
  • Rhinitis: 2 sprays (80 mcg/spray) in each nostril once daily

Pediatric Dosing

  • Asthma, 6-11 yo: 40-80 mcg by oral inhalation BID
  • Rhinitis, 4-11 yo: 1 spray (40 mcg/spray) in each nostril once daily

Special Populations

Contraindications

  • Allergy to class/drug
  • Not to be used as primary treatment for acute asthma exacerbation

Adverse Reactions

Serious

  • Secondary hypocortisolism
  • Cataract, glaucoma
  • Bronchospasm

Common

  • Headache

Pharmacology

  • Half-life: 0.3-3h
  • Metabolism: Hepatic via CYP3A4
  • Excretion: Mostly fecal

Mechanism of Action

  • Corticosteroid, reduces inflammation
