Research

CDC’s Workplace Health Program (WHP) conducts and supports studies, often in collaboration with partners, to develop interventions that improve the health, safety, and well-being of workers. This research uses many areas of expertise (behavioral science, economics, epidemiology, health services, and statistics) to address the needs of WHP’s programs, employers, worksite wellness practitioners, and the larger workplace health promotion and protection community.

National Healthy Worksite Program (2011-2015)

The National Healthy Worksite Program (NHWP) helped employers use science- and practice-based disease-prevention and wellness strategies to reduce the rates of chronic disease. From 2013 to 2015, each participant received support, training, and technical assistance to establish a combination of program, policy and environmental interventions to support physical activity, good nutrition, and tobacco-use cessation.

One hundred participating employers were selected from seven local sites across the country: Somerset County, ME (Skowhegan); Shelby County, TN (Memphis); Marion County, IN (Indianapolis); Harris County, TX (Houston); Buchanan County, MO (St. Joseph); Kern County, CA (Bakersfield); Pierce County, WA (Tacoma); and Philadelphia County, PA (Philadelphia).

Workplace Health Research Network (WHRN) – is a national network of academic, public health, and community partners who work together to engage employers, employees, and communities to advance knowledge and use effective, comprehensive and integrated approaches to promote and protect worker health, safety, and well-being.
