Overview
The vision for the future of immunization information management is that "Real time, consolidated immunization data and services for all ages are available for authorized clinical, administrative, and public health users, and consumers, anytime and anywhere."
To help achieve this vision, in October 2012, NCIRD launched the creation of the IIS Strategic Plan in order to serve as a guide for future investment decisions, and ultimately, strengthen the use of IIS and help CDC, awardees, and stakeholders gain better insights into vaccine coverage, trends, and needs nationwide. The IIS Strategic Plan current presents short-, mid-, and long-term goals and initiatives across five focus areas including: Nationwide Leadership, Sustainability, Capacity & Infrastructure, Service Delivery, and Interoperability/Data Management.
In November 2013, NCIRD established the IIS Executive Board to provide recommendations regarding the IIS Strategic Plan and help it evolve with the rapidly-changing IIS environment. The IIS Executive Board is comprised of selected, government-only stakeholders from the federal, state, and local levels. The IIS Executive Board has actively assisted the NCIRD to refine the focus area names, goals, and initiatives and to operationalize the IIS Strategic Plan.
