STD*MIS 5 Demo

STD*MIS 5 Demo is a "demonstration" version of the current version 5 system. It is distributed primarily for the purpose of allowing potential users to review and evaluate the new version 5 system. Before downloading and installing the demo software, carefully read the list of questions and answers below.

How do I acquire and install the demo software?

  1. Create a folder on a local or network drive to contain the version 5 system. To avoid any problems, create this folder in a place that is completely separate from the folder where your current STD*MIS system is installed.
  2. Download the Version 5 Demo zip file into your newly created version 5 folder and unzip it.

How do I access the system?

Start the system by using Windows Explorer to navigate to the version 5 folder and double-click on the file labeled StdMis.exe. Once the system starts, log in using a user id and password of STD and StdMis0! respectively.

What documentation is available to help me navigate through the system?

Included with the demo version is a Microsoft Word document called Overview. This document gives an overview of the changes to the system and explains in broad terms how version 5 differs from previous releases of STD*MIS. In addition, there are several other Word documents that contain example workflows that demonstrate new and updated features of the system. Each workflow will list what steps to follow within the system to access the new features and will contain information about the new features being demonstrated. In addition to the scenarios, you can download a Powerpoint presentation (STDMIS50Intro) and a webinar recording (Webinar_11_2010) that provide an overview of the system.

Do I have to provide my own data?

No, the version 5 demo software comes complete with its own test database. Since the new features in STD*MIS 5 have required changes in the database structure, database files from previous versions of STD*MIS will not work in the version 5 environment.

How can I get the STD*MIS 5 production system?

The process for requesting the production version of STD*MIS 5 begins by downloading, unzipping and completing the STD*MIS 5 Pre-installation Questionnaire (PreInstallQuestions.zip). After completing the questionnaire, submit it via fax (404-639-8611) or e-mail to either Marvin Fleming (mqf6@cdc.gov) or Sheila Dooley-Edwards (spd2@cdc.gov). Based on the responses provided representatives from the Statistics and Data Management Branch’s STD*MIS Support Team will contact the requesting sites directly to schedule the on-site training and installation arrangements.
