Florida Prevention Research Center and Social Marketing Conference
Social Marketing Conference and Training Academy Being Held in June 2016
Faculty and students from the Florida Prevention Research Center (PRC) at the University of South Florida (USF) have coordinated a biannual Social Marketing Conference and the Social Marketing Training Academy for the past 24 years.
Held in Clearwater Beach, Florida, the next Social Marketing Conference is June 17-18, 2016, and the Social Marketing Training Academy is June 15-16, 2016.
The conference is a two-day interactive, scholarly event that explores topics such as:
- developing national and international social marketing strategies
- promoting social marketing within an agency
- sustaining social marketing programs
- using innovative methods to understand consumer needs and wants
Social Marketing seeks to develop and integrate marketing concepts with other approaches to influence behaviors that benefit individuals and communities for the greater social good. The conference draws speakers and trainers from among leading public health professionals, social marketing experts, and social change strategists from around the globe.
A two-day Training Academy provides core instruction to learn social marketing or to refine skills. The Academy topics include interactive strategy sessions using research results, case studies to illustrate key concepts, and hands-on exercises to apply principles.
Public Health Professionals Trained over Two Decades
In the last 24 years, over 6,000 public health and public sector professionals from the United States and 37 other countries have attended the conference. The Training Academy has trained over 2,500 people since it began. Over the years, the conference has explored how social marketing has been successfully applied in many fields.
Led by Florida PRC Center Director Carol Bryant, the PRC has provided technical assistance and continuing education since 1998, equipping health professionals, other public sector professionals, and their community partners to apply marketing principles to problem definition, program design, and policy development.
