NIOSH Seeking Coordinator for Prevention through Design Program

December 27, 2013
NIOSH Update:

Contact: Nura Sadeghpour (202) 245-0673

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) announces recruitment of an industrial hygienist or safety engineer to coordinate the agency’s Prevention through Design (PtD) program. This position offers the opportunity to serve a national initiative that promotes the prevention and reduction of occupational injuries, illnesses, and fatalities through the design and re-design of workplace environments.

The goals of the PtD initiative place importance on the initial design of facilities, materials, equipment, and processes in order to prevent or minimize the work-related hazards and risks associated with their use. Addressing occupational safety and health needs at the front end through the design of every work-related process will support the redesign of work environments, prevent or minimize the work-related hazards and risks associated with the construction, manufacture, use, maintenance, and disposal of facilities, materials, and equipment, and ensure a higher degree of safety for workers.

With heightened attention on green jobs and environmental sustainability, the inclusion of prevention considerations into all industry designs will not only increase the safety of workers but support the global move towards a green economy as well. NIOSH serves as a catalyst to establish this Initiative while partners actively participate in addressing these goals to make PtD second nature for all stakeholders in the 21st century.

The open position is rated as a GS-14 and is located in Cincinnati. It is posted at https://www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/357705700 and open until January 9th, 2014. The position job title is Interdisciplinary Industrial Hygienist/Safety Engineer. The Job Announcement Number is HHS-CDC-D2-1016378.
