NIOSH Seeking Information from Former and Current Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Workers for Special Exposure Cohort Evaluation

WHO

NIOSH's Division of Compensation Analysis and Support will present information about the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (the Act), a program that could benefit current or former Lawrence Livermore employees or their survivors. In particular, NIOSH will present information about the Special Exposure Cohort process, and its investigation into whether a Special Exposure Cohort should exist at Lawrence Livermore for the years 1974-1995. Information about radiological conditions and monitoring programs at Lawrence Livermore during those years will affect the outcome of NIOSH's investigation.

BACKGROUND

The SEC is a unique category of employees established by the Act. Claims compensated under the SEC do not have to go through the dose reconstruction process. To qualify for inclusion in the SEC, a covered employee must have at least one of 22 specified cancers and have worked for a specified time-period at a SEC site. Please note that work at LLNL between 1950 and 1973 is already included in the SEC.
