The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) today announced the availability of NIOSHTIC-2, an on-line bibliographic data base that includes citations to scientific publications or documents written or funded by NIOSH, as well as a link to non-NIOSH literature citations on the National Library of Medicine's (NLM) MEDLINE data base.

The NIOSH citations at present encompass more than 16,000 publications from 1971 to 1998, including abstracts where available. The link with NLM provides access on MEDLINE to more than 10 million additional citations by researchers and organizations other than NIOSH. MEDLINE has increased its coverage of occupational safety and health literature by adding 25 new journal titles over the past two years. NIOSH recommended many of these titles and will continue to suggest new titles to NLM for review and inclusion.

"NIOSHTIC-2 provides the first step for locating thousands of NIOSH publications that have appeared over the past 30 years," said NIOSH Director Linda Rosenstock, M.D., M.P.H. "Through the linkage with MEDLINE, we are pleased that NIOSHTIC-2 also offers a gateway to other literature in our field."

NIOSHTIC-2 can be accessed at www.cdc.gov/niosh/nishtc-2.html. Citations can be searched by topic, author, title, year, and keywords. A link at the site also connects the user to the MEDLINE site.
