GLOBAL COLLABORATIONS

Program Impact

NIOSH is strongly committed to program evaluation as a way to maximize its contributions to improved occupational safety and health. Regular review of program activities, outputs, and outcomes is essential to demonstrating program performance. The Global Collaborations Program conducts reviews and shares program impact in a variety of ways.

Collaborating Centers Progress Review

The 60th World Health Assembly (WHA) in 2007 endorsed the Global Plan of Action on Workers’ Health (GPA) for the period 2008-2017. NIOSH chaired the WHO network of Collaborating Centres for Occupational health during this period. The WHO network carried out projects to assist WHO and countries to meet the goals of the GPA.  In 2013 a review was carried out by WHO, led by NIOSH, via two surveys to assess the impacts of the network during the period 2006-2012. It concluded that the majority of projects carried out by Collaborating Centres (69%) fulfilled their commitments to WHO to a large extent.

In addition, the Review requested the Collaborating Centers to make available their public domain products. More than 300 products and trainings from the Network of WHO Collaborating Centers for inclusion in the Geolibrary.

In an effort to highlight the successes of the Global network of Collaborating Centers NIOSH and the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health jointly published Improving Workers’ Health Across the Globe. This success document organizes effective examples from across the globe using the objectives set in the Global Plan of Action for Workers’ Health, a plan created to improve the health of all workers.
