Input: Sector and Cross-Sector Programs

Essential inputs for establishing goals and program activities in the NIOSH Exposure Assessment Portfolio arise from the specific needs of the NIOSH Sector and Cross-Sector Programs. In particular, these include:

  • Problem anticipation or recognition by the sector councils which cover the full spectrum of work
  • Problem anticipation or recognition by the disease and injury-specific cross-sector programs that address the individual health risks and consequences encountered by workers
  • Heath Hazard Evaluations, which are performed under the regulatory authority of Title 42 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 85 (42CFR85)
  • Research in places of employment, which is performed under the regulatory authority of Title 42 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 85a (42CFR85a)
  • Surveillance information from a variety of intramural and extramural sources
  • Stakeholders from the sectors, cross-sectors, and professional exposure assessment community
  • Infrastructure capabilities and resources to achieve the potential exposure assessment goals
  • Budget targets established for specific areas of exposure assessment research and practice
  • Federal mandates
  • Emerging issues (e.g., nanotechnology safety)
