FIRE FIGHTING

FIRE Highly flammable. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.
NO open flames, NO sparks, and NO smoking.
Dry powder. Carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION Vapour/air mixtures are explosive.
Closed system, ventilation, explosion-proof electrical equipment and lighting. Do NOT use compressed air for filling, discharging, or handling.
In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water.
EXPOSURE
AVOID ALL CONTACT!

•INHALATION Sore throat. Headache. Dizziness. Blue lips or finger nails. Blue skin. Nausea. Confusion. Convulsions. Unconsciousness. Symptoms may be delayed (see Notes).
Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Artificial respiration may be needed. Refer for medical attention.
•SKIN
Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap.
•EYES
Safety spectacles.
Rinse with plenty of water (remove contact lenses if easily possible).
•INGESTION (See Inhalation).
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work. Wash hands before eating.
Rinse mouth. Give a slurry of activated charcoal in water to drink. Refer for medical attention.

Personal protection: self-contained breathing apparatus. Evacuate danger area! Consult an expert! Ventilation. Remove all ignition sources. Collect leaking liquid in sealable containers. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place. Do NOT wash away into sewer.
Fireproof. Separated from acids. Well closed.
Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
COLOURLESS LIQUID.

PHYSICAL DANGERS:
The vapour is heavier than air and may travel along the ground; distant ignition possible.

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes on burning producing toxic gases including nitrogen oxides.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS:
TLV: (Ceiling value) 1 ppm, A3 (confirmed animal carcinogen with unknown relevance to humans); BEI issued (ACGIH 2006).

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation and by ingestion.

INHALATION RISK:
A harmful contamination of the air can be reached very quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20°C.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance may cause effects on the blood and cardiovascular system resulting in cardiac disorders and the formation of methaemoglobin. The effects may be delayed. Medical observation is indicated. Exposure at high levels may result in death. See Notes.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
This substance is possibly carcinogenic to humans.
