TYPES OF HAZARD/ EXPOSURE

ACUTE HAZARDS/ SYMPTOMS

PREVENTION

FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING

FIRE Combustible. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.
NO open flames.
Powder, AFFF, foam, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION

EXPOSURE
PREVENT GENERATION OF MISTS!

•INHALATION Cough. Headache. Sore throat.
Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest.
•SKIN Redness. Pain.
Protective gloves.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap.
•EYES Redness. Pain.
Safety goggles, face shield.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
•INGESTION Abdominal pain. Burning sensation. Sore throat.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Rinse mouth. Do NOT induce vomiting. Give plenty of water to drink. Refer for medical attention.

SPILLAGE DISPOSAL

STORAGE

PACKAGING & LABELLING

Collect leaking liquid in sealable containers. Cautiously neutralize spilled liquid. Then wash away with plenty of water. Personal protection: filter respirator for organic gases and vapours.
Separated from strong oxidants, strong bases.

ICSC: 1278 Prepared in the context of cooperation between the International Programme on Chemical Safety & the Commission of the European Communities (C) IPCS CEC 1994. No modifications to the International version have been made except to add the OSHA PELs, NIOSH RELs and NIOSH IDLH values.

PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
COLOURLESS LIQUID.

PHYSICAL DANGERS:

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes on heating or on burning producing toxic and corrosive fumes including phosphoric acid. The substance is a medium strong acid. Reacts with strong oxidants. Attacks many metals forming flammable/explosive gas (hydrogen - see ICSC 0001).

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS:
TLV: 1 ppm as TWA; 2 ppm as STEL; (ACGIH 2004).
OSHA PEL: TWA 1 ppm (5 mg/m3)
NIOSH REL: TWA 1 ppm (5 mg/m3) ST 2 ppm (10 mg/m3)
NIOSH IDLH: 30 ppm See: 107664

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its aerosol.

INHALATION RISK:
A harmful contamination of the air can be reached rather quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20°C.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance is irritating to the eyes , the skin and the respiratory tract .

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
