TYPES OF HAZARD/ EXPOSURE

ACUTE HAZARDS/ SYMPTOMS

PREVENTION

FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING

FIRE Combustible. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.
NO open flames.
Foam, powder, carbon dioxide. NO water.
EXPLOSION Above 79°C explosive vapour/air mixtures may be formed.
Above 79°C use a closed system, ventilation.
In case of fire: cool drums, etc., by spraying with water but avoid contact of the substance with water.
EXPOSURE
AVOID ALL CONTACT!
IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
•INHALATION Cough. Headache. Sore throat.
Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
•SKIN Dry skin. Redness. Pain.
Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap. Refer for medical attention.
•EYES Redness. Pain.
Face shield or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
•INGESTION
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.

SPILLAGE DISPOSAL

STORAGE

PACKAGING & LABELLING

Ventilation. Remove all ignition sources. Do NOT wash away into sewer. Absorb liquid in sand or inert absorbent. Let solidify. Use face shield. Personal protection: filter respirator for organic gases and vapours.
Separated from incompatible materials , see Chemical Dangers. Well closed. Store only if stabilized.

PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
COLOURLESS LIQUID

PHYSICAL DANGERS:

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance polymerizes rapidly, especially under the influence of moisture. The substance decomposes on heating or on burning producing toxic and irritating fumes/gases including nitrogen oxides .

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS:
TLV: 0.2 ppm as TWA; (ACGIH 2008).
MAK: 2 ppm, 9.2 mg/m3;
Peak limitation category: I(1); Pregnancy risk group: D;
(DFG 2008).
OSHA PEL: none
NIOSH REL: TWA 2 ppm (8 mg/m3) ST 4 ppm (16 mg/m3)
NIOSH IDLH: N.D. See: IDLH INDEX

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its vapour.

INHALATION RISK:
A harmful contamination of the air will be reached rather slowly on evaporation of this substance at 20°C.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The vapour is irritating to the eyes and the respiratory tract . Inhalation of vapour may cause asthmatic reactions (see Notes). Immediately glues (sticks to) biological tissues.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
Repeated or prolonged contact with skin may cause dermatitis.

ENVIRONMENTAL
DATA

N O T E S

Depending on the degree of exposure, periodic medical examination is suggested. The symptoms of asthma often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort. Rest and medical observation are therefore essential. Anyone who has shown symptoms of asthma due to this substance should avoid all further contact with this substance. An added stabilizer or inhibitor can influence the toxicological properties of this substance, consult an expert. Card has been partly updated in April 2005. See sections Occupational Exposure Limits, EU classification, Emergency Response.
Card has been partially updated in February 2009: see Occupational Exposure Limits.
