TYPES OF HAZARD/ EXPOSURE

ACUTE HAZARDS/ SYMPTOMS

PREVENTION

FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING

FIRE Highly flammable. Explosive.
NO open flames, NO sparks, and NO smoking.
Water in large amounts, water spray.
EXPLOSION Finely dispersed particles form explosive mixtures in air. Risk of fire and explosion when dissolving in organic solvents.
Prevent deposition of dust; closed system, dust explosion-proof electrical equipment and lighting. Prevent build-up of electrostatic charges (e.g., by grounding). Do NOT expose to friction or shock.
In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water.
EXPOSURE
PREVENT DISPERSION OF DUST!

•INHALATION
Local exhaust or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
•SKIN
Protective gloves.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower.
•EYES
Safety goggles, or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
•INGESTION Headache. Nausea. Weakness. Convulsions.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Induce vomiting (ONLY IN CONSCIOUS PERSONS!). Give a slurry of activated charcoal in water to drink. Refer for medical attention.

SPILLAGE DISPOSAL

STORAGE

PACKAGING & LABELLING

Consult an expert! Do NOT let this chemical enter the environment. Remove all ignition sources. Sweep spilled substance into covered containers; if appropriate, moisten first to prevent dusting. Personal protection: A/P2 filter respirator for organic vapour and harmful dust.
Fireproof. Cool. Separated from strong oxidants and incompatible materials. See Chemical Dangers.

PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
WHITE POWDER

PHYSICAL DANGERS:
If dry, it can be charged electrostatically by swirling, pneumatic transport, pouring, etc.

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes due to warming producing toxic fumes such as tetramethylsuccinonitrile (see ICSC 1121) and cyanide. May decompose explosively on shock, friction, or concussion. May explode on heating. Reacts violently with alcohols, oxidants, ketones such as acetone, aldehydes and hydrocarbons such as heptane causing fire and explosion hazard.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS:
TLV not established.
MAK not established.

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by ingestion.

INHALATION RISK:
Evaporation at 20°C is negligible; a harmful concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly when dispersed.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance may cause effects on the central nervous system .

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
The substance may have effects on the liver.

PHYSICAL
PROPERTIES

Density: 1.1
g/cm3
Solubility in water, g/100 ml at 20°C: none
Vapour pressure, Pa at 20°C: <1
Auto-ignition temperature: 64°C

ENVIRONMENTAL
DATA

The substance is harmful to aquatic organisms. The substance may cause long-term effects in the aquatic environment.

N O T E S

Temperature of decomposition unknown in literature. Insufficient data are available on the effect of this substance on human health, therefore utmost care must be taken. Aceto azib, ADZN, AIBN, AIVN, AZDH, CHKHZ, Genitron, Pianofor AN, Porofor N, Porofor-57 and Vazo (64) are trade names.
