TYPES OF HAZARD/ EXPOSURE

ACUTE HAZARDS/ SYMPTOMS

PREVENTION

FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING

FIRE Combustible.
NO open flames.
Powder, alcohol-resistant foam, water spray, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION Above 71°C explosive vapour/air mixtures may be formed.
Above 71°C use a closed system, ventilation.

EXPOSURE
PREVENT GENERATION OF MISTS!

•INHALATION Cough. Headache. Dizziness. Drowsiness. Nausea.
Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
•SKIN MAY BE ABSORBED! Redness. Dry skin.
Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap.
•EYES Redness.
Safety goggles.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
•INGESTION Burning sensation in the throat and chest. Vomiting. (Further see Inhalation).
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Rinse mouth. Give plenty of water to drink. Do NOT induce vomiting. Refer for medical attention.

SPILLAGE DISPOSAL

STORAGE

PACKAGING & LABELLING

Ventilation. Collect leaking liquid in sealable containers. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place. (Extra personal protection: filter respirator for organic gases and vapours.)
Separated from strong oxidants, and strong bases. Cool. Keep in the dark.

PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
COLOURLESS LIQUID , WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR.

PHYSICAL DANGERS:

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance can presumably form explosive peroxides. Reacts with strong oxidants and strong bases , causing fire and explosion hazard.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS:
TLV: 20 ppm as TWA; A3; (ACGIH 2003).
MAK: 20 ppm, 130 mg/m3, H;
Peak limitation category: II(4); Pregnancy risk group: C;
(DFG 2003).
OSHA PEL: none
NIOSH REL: TWA 5 ppm (33 mg/m3)
NIOSH IDLH: N.D. See: IDLH INDEX

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its vapour, through the skin and by ingestion.

INHALATION RISK:

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The vapour is irritating to the eyes , the skin and the respiratory tract . The substance may cause effects on the central nervous system . Exposure far above the OEL may result in unconsciousness. The substance may cause effects on the blood , resulting in lesions of blood cells and kidney impairment .

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
The liquid defats the skin. The substance may have effects on the blood , resulting in anaemia and kidney impairment .
