EXPOSURE
STRICT HYGIENE!

•INHALATION Cough. Dizziness. Headache. Laboured breathing. (See Ingestion).
Local exhaust or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Half-upright position. Refer for medical attention.
•SKIN MAY BE ABSORBED! Redness.
Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
First rinse with plenty of water, then remove contaminated clothes and rinse again. Refer for medical attention.
•EYES Redness. Pain. Swelling of the eyelids. Blurred vision. Even permanent loss of vision.
Safety spectacles face shield or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
•INGESTION Abdominal pain. Blue lips or fingernails. Blue skin. Convulsions. Drowsiness. Laboured breathing. Shortness of breath. Vomiting. Weakness.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Rinse mouth. Give a slurry of activated charcoal in water to drink. Refer for medical attention.

The substance decomposes on burning producing toxic fumes (nitrogen oxides). The substance is a strong reducing agent and reacts violently with oxidants and strong bases.

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation, through the skin and by ingestion.

INHALATION RISK:
A harmful contamination of the air will not or will only very slowly be reached on evaporation of this substance at 20°C ; on spraying or dispersing, however, much faster.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance is irritating to the eyes . Inhalation of dust may cause asthmatic reactions (see Notes). Swelling of mouth and throat may be observed following ingestion. The substance may cause effects on the blood , resulting in formation of methaemoglobin. Exposure may result in death.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
Repeated or prolonged contact may cause skin sensitization. Repeated or prolonged inhalation exposure may cause asthma. The substance may have effects on the kidneys , resulting in kidney impairment.

Depending on the degree of exposure, periodic medical examination is suggested. The symptoms of asthma often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort. Rest and medical observation are therefore essential. Anyone who has shown symptoms of asthma due to this substance should avoid all further contact with this substance. Specific treatment is necessary in case of poisoning with this substance; the appropriate means with instructions must be available. The relation between odour and the occupational exposure limit cannot be indicated. Rinse contaminated clothes (fire hazard) with plenty of water.
