TYPES OF HAZARD/ EXPOSURE

ACUTE HAZARDS/ SYMPTOMS

PREVENTION

FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING

FIRE Combustible. Liquid formulations containing organic solvents may be flammable.
NO open flames.
Water spray, foam, powder, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION Finely dispersed particles form explosive mixtures in air.
Prevent deposition of dust; closed system, dust explosion-proof electrical equipment and lighting.

EXPOSURE
PREVENT DISPERSION OF DUST! STRICT HYGIENE!

•INHALATION
Ventilation (not if powder), local exhaust, or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
•SKIN
Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower.
•EYES
Safety goggles or eye protection in combination with breathing protection if powder.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
•INGESTION
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work. Wash hands before eating.
Rinse mouth. Rest. Refer for medical attention.

SPILLAGE DISPOSAL

STORAGE

PACKAGING & LABELLING

Do NOT wash away into sewer. Vacuum spilled material. Carefully collect remainder, then remove to safe place.
Provision to contain effluent from fire extinguishing. Separated from food and feedstuffs . Do not store near heat or open flame.
Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
ODOURLESS, COLOURLESS TO CREAM-COLOURED, CRYSTALLINE SOLID.

PHYSICAL DANGERS:
Dust explosion possible if in powder or granular form, mixed with air.

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
On combustion, forms toxic gases (carbon monoxide, see ICSC 0023), nitrogen oxides, hydrogen chloride (see ICSC 0163).

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS:
TLV: Intended change (1 mg/m3, inhal. & vapour, SEN, A2 (suspected human carcinogen);) (ACGIH 2005).
MAK not established.

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its aerosol and by ingestion.

INHALATION RISK:
Evaporation at 20°C is negligible; a harmful concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly on spraying or when dispersed, especially if powdered.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
Repeated or prolonged contact may cause skin sensitization. The substance may have effects on the liver. This substance is possibly carcinogenic to humans.

PHYSICAL
PROPERTIES

Melting point: 40°C
Density: 1.1
g/cm3
Solubility in water, g/100 ml at 25°C:
(none)
Flash point: 137°C c.c.
Octanol/water partition coefficient as log Pow: 3.5

ENVIRONMENTAL
DATA

The substance is toxic to aquatic organisms. This substance does enter the environment under normal use. Great care, however, should be given to avoid any additional release, e.g. through inappropriate disposal.

N O T E S

Carrier solvents used in commercial formulations may change physical and toxicological properties. Card has been partly updated in October 2005. See section EU classification.
