TYPES OF HAZARD/ EXPOSURE

ACUTE HAZARDS/ SYMPTOMS

PREVENTION

FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING

FIRE Explosive. Many reactions may cause fire or explosion. See Notes.
NO open flames, NO sparks, and NO smoking.
Water in large amounts.
EXPLOSION Risk of fire and explosion.
Do NOT expose to friction or shock. Use non-sparking handtools. Prevent deposition of dust; closed system, dust explosion-proof electrical equipment and lighting.
In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water.
EXPOSURE
PREVENT DISPERSION OF DUST!

•INHALATION Headache. Nausea. Vomiting.
Local exhaust or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
•SKIN
Protective gloves.
Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap. Seek medical attention if you feel unwell
•EYES Redness.
Safety goggles.
Rinse with plenty of water (remove contact lenses if easily possible).
•INGESTION Headache. Dizziness. Nausea. Vomiting. Diarrhoea.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Rinse mouth. Give one or two glasses of water to drink. Refer for medical attention.

SPILLAGE DISPOSAL

STORAGE

PACKAGING & LABELLING

Remove all ignition sources. Evacuate danger area! Consult an expert! Personal protection: particulate filter respirator adapted to the airborne concentration of the substance. Sweep spilled substance into containers; if appropriate, moisten first to prevent dusting. Carefully collect remainder, then remove to safe place. Do NOT let this chemical enter the environment.
Fireproof. Cool. Keep wetted. Separated from strong oxidants, metals and reducing substances. Store in an area without drain or sewer access.
Special material.

PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
YELLOW CRYSTALS

PHYSICAL DANGERS:
As a result of flow, agitation, etc., electrostatic charges can be generated. Dust explosion possible if in powder or granular form mixed with air.

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
May explosively decompose on shock, friction, or concussion. May explode on heating. Shock-sensitive compounds are formed with metals, particularly copper, lead, mercury and zinc. On combustion, forms toxic carbon and nitrogen oxides. Reacts vigorously with oxidants and reducing materials.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS:
TLV: 0.1 mg/m3 as TWA (ACGIH 2008).
MAK: skin absorption (H); sensitization of skin (Sh);
Carcinogen category: 3B
(DFG 2008).
OSHA PEL: TWA 0.1 mg/m3 skin
NIOSH REL: TWA 0.1 mg/m3 ST 0.3 mg/m3 skin
NIOSH IDLH: 75 mg/m3 See: 88891

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by ingestion.

INHALATION RISK:
Evaporation at 20°C is negligible; a harmful concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance is mildly irritating to the eyes

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
Repeated or prolonged contact with skin may cause dermatitis. The substance may have effects on the gastrointestinal tract , kidneys , liver and blood when ingested . OSHA 1978 http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/pdfs/0515.pdf 13801

Do NOT take working clothes home. Rinse contaminated clothes (fire hazard) with plenty of water. UN number 0154 refers to picric acid, dry or moistened with less than 30% water by mass. For safe transportation, 30% water or more is usually added. ; UN 3364 Trinitrophenol(picric acid), wetted with not less than 10% water, by mass; Hazard class: 4.1, Packing Group I
Transport Emergency Card: TEC (R)-41G19 is for UN 0154
;
Transport Emergency Card: TEC (R)-1GD-I+II is for UN 1344 and 3364

NFPA Code: H3; F4; R4;
Other UN numbers:1344, with not less than 30% water by mass, hazard class 4.1, Packing Group I
