TYPES OF HAZARD/ EXPOSURE

ACUTE HAZARDS/ SYMPTOMS

PREVENTION

FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING

FIRE Highly flammable.
NO open flames, NO sparks, and NO smoking.
Powder, alcohol-resistant foam, water spray, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION Vapour/air mixtures are explosive.
Closed system, ventilation, explosion-proof electrical equipment and lighting. Do NOT use compressed air for filling, discharging, or handling. Use non-sparking handtools.
In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water.
EXPOSURE
AVOID ALL CONTACT!

•INHALATION Burning sensation. Cough. Shortness of breath. Sore throat.
Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
•SKIN Redness. Pain.
Protective clothing. Protective gloves.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower. Refer for medical attention.
•EYES Redness. Pain. Blurred vision.
Safety spectacles, or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
•INGESTION Abdominal pain. Diarrhoea. Nausea. Vomiting.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Rinse mouth. Give one or two glasses of water to drink. Do NOT induce vomiting. Refer for medical attention.

SPILLAGE DISPOSAL

STORAGE

PACKAGING & LABELLING

Evacuate danger area! Remove all ignition sources. Consult an expert! Collect leaking and spilled liquid in sealable containers as far as possible. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place. Do NOT let this chemical enter the environment. Personal protection: self-contained breathing apparatus.
Fireproof. Cool. Keep in the dark. Store only if stabilized.

Marine pollutant.

PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
COLOURLESS LIQUID , WITH PUNGENT ODOUR.

PHYSICAL DANGERS:
The vapour mixes well with air, explosive mixtures are formed easily. Vapours are unhibited and may form polymers in vents or flame arrestors, resulting in stoppage of vents.

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance may polymerize spontaneously due to warming, under the influence of light and on contact with peroxides.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS:
TLV: 5 ppm as TWA; 15 ppm as STEL; A4; (ACGIH 2003).
MAK: 5 ppm 21 mg/m3; Sh;
Peak limitation category: I(2); Pregnancy risk group: C;
(DFG 2006).
OSHA PEL: TWA 25 ppm (100 mg/m3) skin
NIOSH REL: Ca See Appendix A
NIOSH IDLH: Ca 300 ppm See: 140885

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation, through the skin and by ingestion.

INHALATION RISK:
A harmful contamination of the air can be reached rather quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20°C.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance is irritating to the eyes , the skin and the respiratory tract .

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
Repeated or prolonged contact may cause skin sensitization. Tumours have been detected in experimental animals but may not be relevant to humans.
