FIRE FIGHTING

FIRE Not combustible. Heating will cause rise in pressure with risk of bursting.
NO contact with water or steam. NO contact with hot surfaces.
In case of fire in the surroundings: powder, carbon dioxide . NO water .
EXPLOSION Risk of fire and explosion on contact with water or when heated to decomposition.

In case of fire: cool drums, etc., by spraying with water but avoid contact of the substance with water.
EXPOSURE
STRICT HYGIENE!
IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
•INHALATION Cough. Shortness of breath. Sore throat. Burning sensation. Laboured breathing. Symptoms may be delayed (see Notes).
Ventilation. Local exhaust or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Half-upright position. Artificial respiration may be needed. Refer for medical attention.
•SKIN Redness. Skin burns. Pain. Blisters.
Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
First rinse with plenty of water, then remove contaminated clothes and rinse again. Refer for medical attention.
•EYES Redness. Pain. Severe deep burns.
Face shield or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
•INGESTION Abdominal cramps. Burning sensation. Weakness. Diarrhoea. Vomiting. Abdominal pain. Shock or collapse.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Rinse mouth. Do NOT induce vomiting. Refer for medical attention.

Evacuate danger area! Consult an expert! Ventilation. Collect leaking and spilled liquid in sealable containers as far as possible. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place. NEVER direct water jet on liquid. Chemical protection suit including self-contained breathing apparatus.

Airtight. Unbreakable packaging; put breakable packaging into closed unbreakable container.

PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
COLOURLESS FUMING LIQUID , WITH PUNGENT ODOUR.

PHYSICAL DANGERS:
The vapour is heavier than air.

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
May explode on heating. The substance decomposes on contact with alcohol producing toxic and corrosive fumes ( hydrogen bromide ). Reacts violently with water producing hydrogen bromide gas, causing explosion hazard.

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation and by ingestion.

INHALATION RISK:
A harmful contamination of the air can be reached very quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20°C.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance is corrosive to the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract. Corrosive on ingestion. Inhalation of may cause lung oedema (see Notes).

N O T E S

Reacts violently with fire extinguishing agents such as water or foam. The occupational exposure limit value should not be exceeded during any part of the working exposure. The odour warning when the exposure limit value is exceeded is insufficient. The symptoms of lung oedema often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort. Rest and medical observation are therefore essential. Immediate administration of an appropriate inhalation therapy by a doctor or a person authorized by him/her, should be considered. Do NOT take working clothes home.
