TYPES OF HAZARD/ EXPOSURE

ACUTE HAZARDS/ SYMPTOMS

PREVENTION

FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING

FIRE Liquid formulations containing organic solvents may be flammable. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.

In case of fire in the surroundings: use appropriate extinguishing agent
EXPLOSION

EXPOSURE
STRICT HYGIENE! AVOID EXPOSURE OF ADOLESCENTS AND CHILDREN!
IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
•INHALATION Sweating. Muscle twitching. Pupillary constriction, muscle cramp, excessive salivation. Diarrhoea. Dizziness. Laboured breathing. Vomiting. Convulsions. Unconsciousness. Symptoms may be delayed (see Notes).
Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Artificial respiration may be needed. Refer for medical attention.
•SKIN MAY BE ABSORBED! (Further see Inhalation).
Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap. Refer for medical attention.
•EYES Redness. Pain.
Face shield or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
•INGESTION Abdominal cramps. (Further see Inhalation).
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work. Wash hands before eating.
Rinse mouth. Induce vomiting (ONLY IN CONSCIOUS PERSONS!). Give a slurry of activated charcoal in water to drink. Refer for medical attention immediately. See Notes.

PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
COLOURLESS TO YELLOW OILY LIQUID

PHYSICAL DANGERS:

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes on heating or on burning producing highly toxic fumes including phosphorus oxides hydrogen chloride and nitrogen oxides . Reacts withbases (hydrolysis). Attacks metals such as iron, tin and aluminium.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS:
TLV: BEI issued; (ACGIH 2005).
MAK not established.

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its aerosol, through the skin and by ingestion.

INHALATION RISK:
Evaporation at 20°C is negligible; a harmful concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly on spraying.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance is irritating to the eyes . The substance may cause effects on the nervous system , resulting in convulsions , respiratory depression and death . Exposure at high levels may result in death. Cholinesterase inhibition. The effects may be delayed. Medical observation is indicated.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
Cholinesterase inhibitor; cumulative effect is possible: see acute hazards/symptoms.

ENVIRONMENTAL
DATA

The substance is very toxic to aquatic organisms. This substance may be hazardous in the environment; special attention should be given to birds and honey bees. This substance does enter the environment under normal use. Great care, however, should be given to avoid any additional release, e.g. through inappropriate disposal.

N O T E S

Depending on the degree of exposure, periodic medical examination is suggested. Specific treatment is necessary in case of poisoning with this substance; the appropriate means with instructions must be available. Commercial product is a mixture of isomers. Carrier solvents used in commercial formulations may change physical and toxicological properties. Do NOT take working clothes home. Pillarcron, Dimecron and Phosron are trade names.
