TYPES OF HAZARD/ EXPOSURE

ACUTE HAZARDS/ SYMPTOMS

PREVENTION

FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING

FIRE Combustible. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.
NO open flames.
water spray, foam, powder, carbon dioxide
EXPLOSION Above 101°C explosive vapour/air mixtures may be formed.
Above 101°C use a closed system, ventilation.
In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water.
EXPOSURE
AVOID ALL CONTACT!

•INHALATION Cough. Sore throat.
Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
•SKIN Redness.
Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap.
•EYES Redness. Pain.
Safety spectacles .
Rinse with plenty of water (remove contact lenses if easily possible). Refer for medical attention.
•INGESTION Sore throat.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Rinse mouth. Give one or two glasses of water to drink. Refer for medical attention.

SPILLAGE DISPOSAL

STORAGE

PACKAGING & LABELLING

Personal protection: filter respirator for organic gases and vapours adapted to the airborne concentration of the substance. Do NOT let this chemical enter the environment. Collect leaking and spilled liquid in sealable containers as far as possible. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place.
Provision to contain effluent from fire extinguishing. Separated from strong oxidants, acids, anhydrides and food and feedstuffs . Dry. Keep in the dark. Well closed. Store in an area without drain or sewer access.
Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.
UN Hazard Class: 6.1
UN Packing Group: III
Signal: Danger
Skull-Health haz-Enviro
Toxic if swallowed
Harmful in contact with skin
Causes mild skin irritation
Causes eye irritation
Suspected of causing cancer
Suspected of causing genetic defects
Very toxic to aquatic life
ICSC: 0071 Prepared in the context of cooperation between the International Programme on Chemical Safety & the Commission of the European Communities (C) IPCS CEC 1994. No modifications to the International version have been made except to add the OSHA PELs, NIOSH RELs and NIOSH IDLH values.

PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
COLOURLESS HYGROSCOPIC LIQUID , WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR. TURNS BROWN AFTER EXPOSURE TO LIGHT.

PHYSICAL DANGERS:

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes on heating and on burning producing toxic fumes including nitrogen oxides . Reacts with strong oxidants , acids and anhydrides .

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS:
TLV not established.
MAK not established.

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation, through the skin and by ingestion.

INHALATION RISK:
A harmful contamination of the air will be reached rather slowly on evaporation of this substance at 20°C; on spraying or dispersing, however, much faster.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance is irritating to the eyes and the skin .

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
The substance may have effects on the liver. This substance is possibly carcinogenic to humans.
