FIRE FIGHTING

FIRE Highly flammable.
NO open flames, NO sparks, and NO smoking. NO contact with oxidants.
Powder, water spray, foam, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION Vapour/air mixtures are explosive. Risk of fire and explosion upon heating above 60°C. Liquid and vapour flash in direct sunlight.
Closed system, ventilation, explosion-proof electrical equipment and lighting. Do NOT use compressed air for filling, discharging, or handling.
In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water. Combat fire from a sheltered position.
EXPOSURE
AVOID ALL CONTACT!
IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
•INHALATION Headache. Dizziness. Nausea. Vomiting. Cough. Shortness of breath. Blue skin. Symptoms may be delayed (see Notes).
Closed system and ventilation.
Fresh air, rest. Half-upright position. Artificial respiration may be needed. Refer for medical attention.
•SKIN
Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap. Refer for medical attention.
•EYES
Face shield or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
•INGESTION See Notes.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work. Wash hands before eating.
Rinse mouth. Refer for medical attention.

Evacuate danger area! Consult an expert! Remove all ignition sources. Collect leaking and spilled liquid in sealable containers as far as possible. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place. Do NOT wash away into sewer. Do NOT let this chemical enter the environment. (Extra personal protection: complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus.)
Fireproof. Separated from strong oxidants, strong acids, food and feedstuffs . Cool. Keep in the dark. Keep under inert gas.
Airtight. Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
VOLATILE COLOURLESS LIQUID , WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR.

PHYSICAL DANGERS:
The vapour is heavier than air and may travel along the ground; distant ignition possible.

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
May explode on heating at 60°C. The substance may spontaneously ignite on contact with air. The substance decomposes on contact with acids producing highly toxic carbon monoxide (see ICSC 0023). Reacts violently with oxidants causing fire and explosion hazard. Oxidizes in air forming deposits which become peroxidized causing fire hazard.

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation and through the skin.

INHALATION RISK:
A harmful contamination of the air can be reached very quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20°C.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance is irritating to the respiratory tract . The substance may cause effects on the central nervous system. Inhalation of vapours may cause lung oedema (see Notes). Exposure may result in death. The effects may be delayed. Medical observation is indicated.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
Repeated or prolonged inhalation exposure may cause asthma. This substance is possibly carcinogenic to humans.

This substance may be hazardous to the environment; special attention should be given to water organisms.

N O T E S

No reported cases of intoxication by ingestion. Depending on the degree of exposure, periodic medical examination is suggested. The symptoms of lung oedema often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort. Rest and medical observation are therefore essential. Immediate administration of an appropriate spray, by a doctor or a person authorized by him/her, should be considered. The symptoms of asthma often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort. Rest and medical observation are therefore essential. Anyone who has shown symptoms of asthma due to this substance should avoid all further contact with this substance. The odour warning when the exposure limit value is exceeded is insufficient. Rinse contaminated clothes (fire hazard) with plenty of water.
