When do you take refuge? Decision-making during mine emergency escape: instructor's guide and lesson plans.

This was a computer-based training program for underground coal miners which can be used in miners’ mandated annual refresher training or quarterly evacuation training. Since publication in August 2011 and the receipt of the Alice Hamilton Award in 2012, the program continues to be very well received. Presentations in 2011 and 2012 have included the Joseph A. Holmes Safety Association and the annual Training Resources Applied to Mining (TRAM) Conference in Beckley, WV at the National Mine Academy in October. TRAM attracts over 500 mine trainers from all over the United States. In addition, we have received a great deal of positive feedback from mine trainers who have incorporated this product into their training regimen. Webmetrics from the one year period March 9, 2012 through March 8, 2013 indicate that there were a total of 209 page views or “hits” by users. During this period, the training product was downloaded 81 times.
