Interagency Working Group on Summary Measures of Health

The Interagency Working Group on Summary Measures of Health (IAWG) was created in early 2000 in response to the need for improving the measurement of health and tracking the burden of disease. The Working Group is chaired by Dr. Edward Sondik, Director of CDC's National Center for Health Statistics, and includes representatives from the National Institutes of Health, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and several other agencies of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). Over the past several years, the IAWG has served as a forum within DHHS for sharing multi-agency perspectives on summary measures of health. The purpose of this website is to provide an ongoing mechanism for sharing information with our colleagues inside and outside of government, about activities and progress in the field of summary measures.
