OPRP - Case Reporting Requirements

Laboratory-confirmed or suspected cases of gastrointestinal illness in either passenger or crew members caused by common enteric pathogens should be reported by either e-mail (vsp@cdc.gov) or telephone (1.800.323.2132) promptly to the Vessel Sanitation Program (VSP). Some common enteric pathogens are:
- Caliciviruses (including Noroviruses)
- Entamoeba histolytica (Amebiasis)
- Hepatitis A virus
- Salmonella spp.
- Shigella spp
- Giardia lamblia
- Campylobacter spp
- Escherichia coli (pathogenic and toxigenic)
- Clostridium botulinum (this should be immediately reported to the emergency number for foodborne diseases)
- Bacillus cereus
- Cyclospora
- Cryptosporidium spp
- Listeria monocytogenes
- Yersinia spp
- Vibrio cholerae
- Foodborne intoxications (food poisoning syndromes)
