EHSB Journal of Environmental Health Columns for 2006

The January/February issue featured EHSB Branch Chief Sharunda Buchanan's review of the National Strategy to Revitalize Environmental Public Health Services. CAPT John Sarisky contributed to the March issue in the second Environmental Health Services Branch column. He discusses Developing Environmental Public Health Leadership [PDF - 111 KB] and details how the new Environmental Public Health Leadership Institute (EPHLI) fellows learn to build effective teams and partnerships; persuade, influence, and generate support for action; resolve conflict; and use problem-solving, decision-making, and system-thinking processes.

In the third Environmental Health Services Branch (EHSB) column published in the April issue of NEHA's Journal of Environmental Health, CAPT Craig Shepherd discusses the updated CDC/U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Healthy Housing Reference Manual. In the May issue of NEHA’s Journal of Environmental Health, CAPT Charles Otto highlights RWIs and their impact on public health in his column "Recreational Water-Illness Prevention = Healthy Swimming". [PDF - 180 KB]

The June issue of NEHA’s Journal of Environmental Health features CAPT Michael Herring’s comments on “Developing the Environmental Health Workforce.” [PDF - 308 KB] He also highlights the many programs that EHSB has participated in to promote the environmental health workforce.

CAPT Mark Miller's column, The Role of Environmental Health Practitioners in a Public Health Emergency [PDF - 143 KB] Journal of Environmental Health's July/August issue, notes that environmental health practitioners have essential roles to play in emergency response.

Working together in partnerships, we can prevent or reduce much of the burden of illness due to unsafe food, notes Vince Radke. His column, The Need for Partnerships for Food Safety [PDF - 167 KB], appears in the September issue of the Journal of Environmental Health.

Brian Hubbard contributed EHSB's column in the October issue of the Journal of Environmental Health. His article Working to Build Healthy Communities: Community Environmental Health Assessments Using PACE EH [PDF - 145 KB], discusses using PACE EH as a tool to build healthy communities.

In the November issue of the Journal of Environmental Health, Daneen Farrow-Collier discusses the importance of cooperative agreement programs in improving the delivery of basic environmental health services in her column CDC Grant Program Supports Environmental Health Services Delivery [PDF - 305 KB].
