EHS-Net Partners

EHS-Net links environmental health specialists from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention / National Center for Environmental Health / Environmental Health Services Branch, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition and the U.S. Department of Agriculture with environmental health specialists from state and local partners to improve food safety.

With the 2015-2020 funding cycle, five states and three local health departments are receiving 5 years of funding (a total of $7.3 million) to investigate environmental factors that contribute to foodborne illness outbreaks in restaurants, delis, and other retail food outlets under RFA-EH-15-001. Using this funding, the health departments will participate in EHS-Net and will work to identify and address the root causes of foodborne illness, such as unsafe food handling practices, ill restaurant workers, and a lack of certified kitchen managers in restaurants.
