CONFERENCE THEMES

The principal theme of CDC’s Sixth National Environmental Public Health Conference is preparing environmental public health and allied health personnel for the challenges of the 21st century – many of which will be profoundly more complex and difficult than those we are currently facing. One of these challenges continues to be how best to organize terrorism preparedness and response efforts. Another conference theme is developing and retaining emerging leaders in the field of environmental public health. The three plenary sessions will focus on:

- Challenges that Environmental Public Health Faces
- Building Successful Environmental Public Health Programs
- Building the Science of Environmental Public Health

GOALS

The goals of the conference are to prepare the public health workforce for the environmental public health challenges of the 21st century; to promote the need for an all-hazards approach to preparedness and response that encompasses terrorism, natural disasters, and other environmental challenges; and to promote the development of emerging environmental public health leaders.

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the conference are to identify environmental public health challenges of the 21st century, to enhance the development of current and future generations of environmental public health leaders, and to promote the development and application of disease prevention and terrorism preparedness and response strategies. The conference will help develop and strengthen working relationships among federal, state, tribal, and local government agencies; national organizations and associations; policy makers and planners; academic institutions; businesses; and industry.
