Notice to Readers: Pre-Beta Version of Open Source Epi Info Released
CDC has released a pre-beta version of the Epi Info Community Edition for developers and information
technology professionals who wish to contribute enhancements and features. This release represents the beginning of a rewrite of
the Epi Info suite of tools into the C#.net development environment. CDC is emphasizing increased collaboration and
open development methods to increase the pace of innovation in public health informatics. The transition to open source
is expected to benefit the global community by enabling Epi Info projects to receive broader, worldwide participation and
open collaboration.
Epi Info Community Edition and its source code are available at
http://www.codeplex.com/epiinfo. This release
includes support for the nonproprietary database format, MySQL, compatible on Windows and Linux operating systems, and the
more common formats of Microsoft Access and Microsoft SQL Server. A stable distribution of Epi Info Version 3.5.1
remains available at http://www.cdc.gov/epiinfo. Additional information about either distribution is available via the Epi Info
help desk at epiinfo@cdc.gov.
