New 'Parents for Healthy Schools' Website

What

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in collaboration with federal, professional, and non-profit organizations, has developed a set of resources called Parents for Healthy Schools. School groups such as parent-teacher associations and school wellness committees can use the materials to engage parents in creating healthy school environments.

Why

Parents play a powerful role in supporting children’s health and learning. Engaged parents help guide their children successfully through school, advocate for their children, and help make schools healthier places.

How

The Parents for Healthy Schools resources can:

• help increase parent engagement in schools.
• share ideas with parents on practical strategies and actions to improve nutrition, increase physical activity, and support the management of chronic health conditions in schools.
• help document and share the progress parents are making in promoting school health.

The resources include:

• Parents for Healthy Schools: A Guide for Getting Parents Involved from K‒12 — for schools and school groups working with parents, provides an overview of how to build a healthy school environment.
• Parents for Healthy Schools: Making a Difference in Your Child’s School PowerPoint Presentation — for parents, makes the case for healthy schools and identifies ways parents can take action.
• Ideas for Parents — for parents, practical ways to promote healthy school environments.
• Check-in Questions — for schools and school groups working with parents, helps track progress in engaging parents.
