CDC Science Clips: Volume 9, Issue 25, June 27, 2017
Science Clips is produced weekly to enhance awareness of emerging scientific knowledge for the public health community. Each article features an Altmetric Attention score to track social and mainstream media mentions!
This week’s featured articles highlight research on the topic of “Loneliness: Public Health Implications and Potential Mechanisms,” co-authored by John Cacioppo, PhD, keynote speaker for CDC’s 2017 Charles C. Shepard Science Awards Ceremony on June 28. John Cacioppo is the Tiffany and Margaret Blake Distinguished Service Professor and the founder and director of the Center for Cognitive and Social Neuroscience at the University of Chicago and author of the book Loneliness: Human Nature and the Need for Social Connection.
CDC’s Charles C. Shepard Science Awards recognize excellence in scientific achievement by CDC and ATSDR authors of outstanding scientific papers. The Shepard Science Awards were established in 1986 to honor internationally recognized microbiologist Charles C. Shepard, MD, chief of CDC’s Leprosy and Rickettsia Branch for more than 30 years until his death on February 18, 1985.
