CDC/PEPFAR supported the launch of the first Asia regional training of the trainers held in Hanoi in February 2014 to strengthen the quality of TB laboratories and the National TB Program. Last year, CDC and the Vietnam Administration for Medical Services/Ministry of Health had successfully implemented the 1-year training program, referred to as Strengthening Laboratory Management Toward Accreditation (SLMTA), to strengthen the quality of laboratories in Vietnam (12 laboratories were trained last year and 16 laboratories are being trained this year). As a result of the success of the first year of SLMTA, CDC is supporting its expansion, using the same training model to strengthen the National TB program in Vietnam, which is implemented by FIND  (Foundation for Innovative Diagnostics) and CDC-supported trainers.
