Mary Dott, MD, MPH

CAPT Dott joined CDC in 2001 as an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Officer. She has worked in the areas of birth defects, maternal and child health, workforce development, and emergency response and served in federal, state, and international assignments. For seven years, she had various staff roles with the EIS Program including Associate Director of Epidemiology, Field Officer Supervisor, and Curriculum and Evaluation Team Lead. Prior to joining the Division of Public Health Information Dissemination she served as the team lead of 12 Career Epidemiology Field Officers (CEFOs) assigned to state and local health departments whose primary mission is to prepare for and respond to public health emergencies. She has contributed to many emergency responses including CDC’s recent response to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa during which she helped to establish the safety training course, Preparing Healthcare Workers to Work in Ebola Treatment Centers in Africa, and the national program for monitoring travelers returning to the US from Ebola affected countries and served as CDC team lead in a remote district in Sierra Leone.

CAPT Dott received a BA degree from the Plan II liberal arts honors program at the University of Texas–Austin, MD from the University of Alabama in Birmingham, and MPH from Rollins School of Public Health. She completed pediatrics internship and residency at Children’s Memorial Hospital of Northwestern University and CDC’s general preventive medicine residency. She is board certified in pediatrics and general preventive medicine.
