Lesson Plans

During the Science Ambassador Fellowship, teachers collaborate with CDC subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop lesson plans that promote students’ critical thinking skills. These lesson plans on emerging public health topics are designed to be engaging and relevant.  Current lesson plans are aligned with Next Generation Science Standards*. The lesson plans apply the National Research Council’s Framework for K-12 Science Education. The framework encourages students to:

  • Participate in science and engineering practices
  • Think about crosscutting concepts throughout the lesson

Science Ambassador lesson plans address five overarching themes in public health science:

  • Disease Control and Prevention
  • Epidemiology
  • Outbreak Investigations
  • Preparedness and Response
  • Surveillance
  • Index
