மேரி சோமர்வில்லி

மேரி பேர்பாக்சு சோமர்வில்லி (Mary Fairfax Somerville) (26 திசம்பர் 1780 – 28 நவம்பர் 1872) ஓர் இசுகாட்டிய அறிவியல் எழுத்தாளரும் பலதுறை வல்லுநரும் ஆவார். இவர் காலத்தில் அறிவியலில் பெண்கள் பங்கேற்க மறுக்கப்பட்டனர்.[1] இவர் வானியலும் கணிதவியலும் பயின்றார். இவரே அரசு வானியல் கழகத்தின் முதன்முதலாக பெண் உறுப்பினராகக் கரோலின் எர்ழ்செலுடன் கூட்டாகத் தேர்வு பெற்றவர் .

இளம்பருவம்

இவர் சர் வில்லியம் பேர்பாக்சின் மகள் ஆவார்.[2] தன் தந்தை வழியாக பல தகைசான்ற பேர்பாக்சு குட்ம்பங்களின் சிங்கம். தன் தாய்வழியாக பல புகழ்மிக்க இசுகாட்டியக் குடும்பங்களுடன் உறவுள்ளவர்.[3] இவர் இசுகாட்டிய எல்லையில் உள்ள யேத்பர்கு, மன்சே நகரில்தன் தாயின் தங்கை வீட்டில் பிறந்தார். தாயின் தங்கையின் கணவர் அமைச்சரான முனைவர் [[தாமசு சோமர்வில்லி (1741–1830). தாமசு சோமர்வில்லி My Own Life and Times எனும் நூலின் ஆசிரியர்.[3] இவரது இளம்பருவ வீடு பிபேயில் அமைந்த பர்ண்டிசுலாந்து வீடாகும்.[2] கடர்பயணத்திலிருந்து வந்த இவரது தந்தையார் பத்து அகவையிலும் இவரது காட்டுமிராண்டி இயல்பைப் பார்த்து முசேல்பர்கு உண்டுறை பள்ளிக்குப் பயிற்சிக்காக அனுப்பியுள்ளார்.[3] அங்கிருந்து ஓரளவு படிக்கவும் எழுதவும் கொஞ்சம் பிஎர்ஞ்சு மொழியும் கற்று வீடு திரும்பினார்; அப்போது இவர் எளிய கணக்குகளைப் போடலானார்.[4]
