சிவியார்

சிவியார் (Siviyar) அல்லது சிவிகையார் (Chivikaiyar) எனப்படுவோர் இந்திய மாநிலமான தமிழ்நாடு மற்றும் இலங்கையில் காணப்படும் ஒரு சாதியினர் ஆவர்.[1] இவர்கள் பாரம்பரியமாக பல்லக்குக் காவுவோர். அவர்கள் இலங்கையில் ஒரே ஒரு சமூகம், இருப்பினும் தமிழ்நாட்டின் இடையர் ஜாதிகளின் ஒரு பிரிவு.[2]

சொற்பிறப்பியல்

இந்த பெயர் "சிவிகை" என்ற பல்லக்கு என்பதிலிருந்து பெறப்பட்டது.[3] அவர்களது தலைவர்கள் "கூறியான்" என அழைக்கப்பட்டனர், அதாவது அறிவிப்பாளர் என்று பொருள்படும், அதாவது அவர் பல்லக்கு முன்னால் எடுக்கப்பட்ட நபரின் வருகையை அறிவிப்பார்.[4][5]
