রবিন হুড

রবিন হুড হলেন ইংরেজ লোককাহিনীর একজন বীরত্বপূর্ণ ডাকু, অত্যন্ত দক্ষ তীরন্দাজ ও অসিযোদ্ধা।[1] যদিও কিছু আচরণ তার মূল চরিত্রের অংশ ছিল না, তবুও তিনি ১৯-শতকের প্রথমদিকে পরিচিত হয়েছেন গরিবের বন্ধু হিসেবে যিনি তার অনুসারী কিছু ডাকুদের (আউটল) নিয়ে মেরি ম্যান[2] নামে একটি দল গঠন করেন যারা ধনীদের কাছ থেকে ডাকাতি ও মালামাল লুট করে গরীবদের মাঝে বিলিয়ে দিতেন। প্রথাগতভাবে রবিন হুড ও তার অনুসারীরা লিঙ্কন সবুজ এক ধরনের কাপড় পরিধান করতেন।[3] এই কিংবদন্তির উৎপত্তি হয়েছিল কিছু আসল ডাকু বা বীর গাথা বা ডাকুদের গল্প থেকে।[4]

রবিন হুড মধ্যযুগীয় সময়ের মধ্যে একটি জনপ্রিয় লোক চরিত্রে পরিণত হন, আধুনিক সাহিত্যেও যেমন, গল্প, নাটক ও চলচ্চিত্রেও তিনি সমান জনপ্রিয়। প্রথমদিককার সূত্রে তাকে মধ্যচাষী বা জমিদারভৃত্য হিসেবে বর্ণনা করা হয় কিন্তু পরবর্তীতে তিনি একজন অসাধু শেরিফ (শহরের আইন রক্ষক) কর্তৃক তার জমি থেকে বিচ্যুত হন এবং ডাকুতে পরিণত হন।[5]

জনপ্রিয় সংস্কৃতিতে রবিন হুড ও তার দল মেরি ম্যান নটিংহামসায়ারের শেরউড জঙ্গলে বসবাস করতেন যেখানে তার বীরত্বপূর্ণ কাহিনীর অধিকাংশের সূত্রপাত।[6] ১৫-শতকের প্রথমদিকে রবিন হুডকে নিয়ে ৪ লাইনের ছড়া রচনা করা হয় যার প্রথম লাইন ছিল, “রবিন হুড ইন স্কেরউড স্টোড”। যাইহোক, প্রথমদিকের বীরত্বপূর্ণ যুদ্ধ থেকে বেঁচে ফেরা ও প্রথমদিকের উৎস অনুসারে[7] এটা ধারণা করা হয় যে, রবিন হুডের গল্পগুলো বার্ণসডেল (বর্তমান ইয়র্কসায়ার, নটিংহামসায়ার সীমান্ত) এলাকার উপর ভিত্তি করে তৈরি।
