মেডুসা

গ্রিক পুরাণে মেডুসা (গ্রিক: Μέδουσα (Médousa), "অভিভাবক, রক্ষাকারী")[1] ছিলো একজন ভয়ংকর দানবী, যার মুখমন্ডল নারীর কিন্তু তার মাথা কেশের পরিবর্তে জীবন্ত-সাপ দ্বারা পূর্ণ ছিলো। কোনো ব্যক্তি তার দিকে সরাসরি দৃষ্টিপাত করলে পাথরে পরিণত হয়ে যেতো। অধিকাংশ মতানুসারে, মেডুসা ছিলেন প্রথম সমুদ্র দেব-দেবী ফোর্সিস এবং কেটোর সন্তান;<r দেবী আথিনার অভিশাপে মেডুসার রুপ এমন হয় মেডুসা খুব রুপবতী ছিলো মেডুসার এই রুপে সবাই পাগল হয়ে যেতেন একদিন সাগরের দেবতা পসাইডন তার রুপ দেখে তাকে কামনা করেন এবং দেবী এথিনার পবিএ জায়গায় তার সঙ্গে সহবাস করেন এতে আথিনার রোষের মুখে পড়ে মেডুসা দেবী আথিনা তাকে অভিশাপ দেয় যে রুপে তার এত অহংকার সেই রুপ তার থাকবে নাas in Hesiod, Theogony 270, and Pseudo-Apollodorus Bibliotheke, 1.10.</ref> যদিও ভিন্ন মতে (Hyginu-এর Fabulae-এ) মেডুসার পিতা মাতা ছিলো অন্য দুজন দেব-দেবী।[2] পরবর্তীতে জিউস-পুত্র পের্সেউস মেদুসাকে বধ করে।
