বাইসন

বাইসন (ইংরেজি: Bison) হল মহিষ সদৃষ বিভক্ত ক্ষুরযুক্ত চতুষ্পদী প্রাণী। আমেরিকা, মধ্য এশিয়া ও ইউরোপের কিছু অঞ্চলে বর্তমানে মাত্র দুটি প্রজাতির বাইসনের সন্ধান পাওয়া যায়। ধারনা করা হয় এর আর চারটি প্রজাতি বহুকাল পূর্বেই বিলীন হয়ে গিয়েছে। বিদ্যমান প্রজাতিগুলোর মধ্যে মার্কিন বাইসন পাওয়া যায় উত্তর আমেরিকার পর্বতাঞ্চলে। এইগুলো দেখতে প্রায় মহিষের মত। অপরদিকে ইউরোপিয় বাইসন হল বাইসনের বন্য পরিবেশে বিলুপ্ত হয়ে যাওয়া একটি প্রজাতির পুনঃউন্মেষ ঘটিয়ে ইউরোপের ককেশাস অঞ্চলের বন্য পরিবেশে সংরক্ষণ করা একটি প্রজাতি।
