প্রোটো-ইন্দো-ইউরোপীয় ধর্মকে সরাসরি নিরূপণ করা সম্ভব না হলেও ইন্দো-ইউরোপীয় জনগোষ্ঠীর উপাস্য দেবতা, ধর্মানুশীলন ও জনশ্রুতির মধ্যে সাদৃশ্যের ভিত্তিতে এই ধর্মমত পুনর্নির্মাণের চেষ্টা করা হয়েছে। এই প্রকল্পিত পুনর্নির্মাণ তুলনামূলক পদ্ধতি দ্বারা ভাষাতত্ত্বের সাক্ষ্যপ্রমাণের ভিত্তিতে করা হয়েছে। চ্যালকোলিথিক (তাম্র-প্রস্তর) যুগের আদিম ইন্দো-ইউরোপীয় সংস্কৃতির সমকালীন কোন নির্দিষ্ট সংস্কৃতির হদিশ প্রত্নতাত্ত্বিক সাক্ষ্যের দ্বারা পাওয়া খুবই দুরূহ।[1]

উপাস্য দেবতা

প্রোটো-ইন্দো-ইউরোপীয় দেবতাদের নামকরণ বিভিন্ন পন্ডিতের দ্বারা গৃহীত ভাষাতাত্ত্বিক প্রমাণের ভিত্তিতে করা হয়েছে।[2]

'দেবতা' অর্থে "*deiwos" [3] ছিলেন হিত্তিতে (Hittite) সিউস্ (sius); ল্যাটিনে (Latin) দিউস্ (deus); সংস্কৃতে (Sanskrit) দেব (deva); আবেস্তায় (Avestan) দেইব (daeva)[পরে, ফার্সিতে (Persian), দিভস্ (divs)]; ওয়েলসে (Welsh) দিউ (duw); আইরিশে (Irish) দিয়া (dia); লিথুয়ানিয়ান (Lithuanian) দিইভাস্ (Dievas);লাটভিয়ায় (Latvian) দিইভস্ (Dievs)।[4]

  1. "*Dyēus Ph2tēr" (সংস্কৃতে 'দ্যৌঃ পিতা',Dyáus Pitā; ল্যাটিনে 'জুপিটার',Zūpiter[Diēspiter]; গ্রীকে 'জিউস',Zeus[Zeu piter]; আক্ষরিক অর্থে "আকাশ পিতা") ছিলেন দিবাকালের আকাশ দেবতা এবং ইন্দো-ইউরোপীয় দেবগোষ্ঠীর প্রধান।
  2. "*Plth2wih2" (সংস্কৃতে 'পৃথ্বী',Prithvi; আক্ষরিক অর্থে "প্রশস্ত একজন") ছিলেন প্রশস্ত ভূভাগ ও নদ-নদীর দেবী।
  3. "H2eus(os)" (সংস্কৃতে 'ঊষা',Ushas; গ্রীকে 'এওস',Eos; রোমান 'অরোরা',Aurora) ছিলেন ঊষাকালের দেবী।
  4. "PriHeh2" (সংস্কৃতে 'প্রিয়া',Priya) ছিলেন প্রেমের দেবী।
  5. "Deh2nu-" (সংস্কৃতে 'দনু',Danu; ওয়েলসে 'ডন',Dôn) ছিলেন নদীর দেবী। নামটি নিপার, নিস্টার, ডন, দানিয়ুব প্রভৃতি নদীর সঙ্গে যুক্ত।
  6. "*Seh2ul" (সংস্কৃতে 'সূর্য্য',Surya; গ্রীকে 'হেলিওস',Helios; রোমান 'সল',Sol) ছিলেন সূর্যের দেবতা।
  7. "*H2epom Nepots" (সংস্কৃতে ও আবেস্তায় 'অপাং নপাত্',Apam napat [জলেদের পৌত্র/ভাগিনেয়] ; "*neptonos" ল্যাটিনে 'নেপচুন',Neptune) ছিলেন জলের বা সমুদ্রের দেবতা। নামটি লিথুয়ানিয়ান নদী নেমুনাস, নেরিস প্রভৃতির সাথে যুক্ত।

বিভ্রাট

নব্য আবেস্তা ও ঋগ্বেদ এর পরবর্তী পাঠ্যগুলিতে যথাক্রমে দেইব (daeva) ও অসুরদের (asura) অপদেবতায় রূপান্তর ঘটেছে। যদিও ঋগ্বেদ ও অন্যান্য বেদগুলির প্রাচীন পাঠ্যগুলিতে দেব (deva) ও অসুরদের (asura) কোন স্পষ্ট বিভাজন নেই; তারা দুই বিপরীত গোষ্ঠী হলেও বেশ কয়েকবার সহযোগী হিসাবে কাজ করেছে। [5]
